about

This may possibly be one of the funniest songs I’ve ever written. I was very upset with the quality of the shower at my residence during the very chilling winter session at Bath Spa. I was very affected by the lack of a hot, private shower. The door didn’t lock, the water was fairly cold, there wasn’t a curtain, just a single swinging piece of glass that enclosed one half of the tub, so water went everywhere, and I was just freezing all the time. When I would stay with friends, I would say, hey, that’s a really nice shower, it has a door and everything, can I take a shower in your shower? And my friends would just look at me like I was an insane American girl. I’ve Had Better is about the relationship I had with that shower.

lyrics

I've had better, and you know it too
I'm so tired, wanting more from you

If I knew you changed my weather
I would have worn my sweater
Chorus
I can’t stay, I can’t keep
Waiting for you to be what I need
I can’t love, I can’t change
This heart of mine
So I'll be on my way
I've had closer, keep me here alone and ashamed
I'm not patient; you can’t hold me all the way
Chorus
I'm beating myself to the ground
Wishing that you'd come around
If I knew you're cold like granite
I would have brought my jacket
I've had sweeter, soaked in warm embrace
I've had so much better; I can’t fix the mess you've made
Chorus
